Jesus didn’t walk on the sea purely for dramatic effects.  By this, and with other signs, Jesus was teaching his earliest witnesses that he was neither a magician nor a clever trickster not anyone less than the Son of God himself.  Such actions served to equip his disciples with the full understanding that he could be none other than the long-promised Messiah.  Another name for him was Immanuel, “God With Us.”  Your God is not hidden in the remote heavens. Just as Jesus was near to his disciples, he is always near to you…

Jesus Walks on the Water

Straightway ‘He’ constrained his disciples to enter into the boat, and to go before Him unto the other side to Bethsaida, while ‘He’ himself send the multitude away.

After ‘He’ had taken leave of them, ‘He’ departed into the mountain to pray.  When evening was come, the boat was in the midst of the sea, and ‘He’ alone on the land.  And seeing them distressed in rowing, for the wind was contrary unto them, about the fourth watch of the night ‘He’ came unto them, walking on the sea; and ‘He’ would have passed by them: but when they saw Him walking on the sea, supposed that it was an apparition, and cried out: for they all saw Him, and were troubled.  But ‘He’ straightway spoke with them, and said unto them, Be of good cheer: it is ‘I’; be not afraid.

‘He’ went up unto them into the boat; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves; for they understood not concerning the loaves, but their heart was hardened.
