Exodus 40: 34-40
The cloud by day and the fire by night were the signs of the Lord’s presence with Israel. The Old Testament people were like children, not full-grown in faith (Galatians 4:1), so visible signs like this were necessary for them. Now that Christ has come, the Spirit of God has come to live in us in a new way. His presence is an inner quality. The spirit gives you clearer understanding of God’s will than the Old Testament people had.
The Lord’s Tent Is Set Up
Then the cloud covered the Tent and the dazzling light of the LORD’s presence filled it. Because of this, Moses could not go into the Tent.
The Israelites moved their camp to another place only when the cloud lifted from the Tent. As long as the cloud stayed there, they did not move their camp.
During all their wanderings they could see the cloud of the LORD’s presence over the Tent during the day and a fire burning above it during the night.
