Matthew 9:32-34

“Orthodox” is a good word that comes from the Greek words meaning “right thinking.” The critics of Jesus in verse 34, thought holding social positions that assumed their “orthodoxy,” were in fact not orthodox at all. One of the most baffling facts of all time is that such so-called “authorities” can be enemies of the truth revealed in God’s own word—which they were sworn to uphold. These were the very ones who finally succeeded in putting Jesus to death. Be respectful of those in authority, as Jesus himself commanded, but always put your faith in promises of God, who cannot lie.

Jesus Heals a Man Who Could Not Talk

As they were going away, behold, a demon-oppressed man who was mute was brought to him. And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, “Never was anything like this seen in Israel.”
But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the prince of demons.”

Jesus Has Pity on People

Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
