Colossians 3:17
“Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.”

What of Today’s Verse…

Nothing is more disastrous than aimless drift! God endows each soul for a distinct purpose.  Probably in every life there is a lucid moment, when we take our bearings, and there flashes before us a glimpse of the life-work for which we were sent forth.  We stand on the mount of vision, like Moses, and see the pattern of the tabernacle, which we are presently to erect.  God has a purpose for the soul, as well as for the body, all the members of which were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.  Is it conceivable that He should spend thought and care on the body, and have no purpose for the soul?  But if that be so, He will reveal His will; He will gradually unfold our life-purpose step by step.  Let us go steadily forward reckoning on our Almighty Friend to supply the needed grace, wisdom, and strength.

When the captain of a cricket team leaves the pavilion for the wicket, the crowds watching his every movement, he is probably saying to himself:  “I am going to score my hundred, to say the least!”  As he faces the man yonder, who may be one of the swiftest and cleverest bowlers in the county; it is as though he says:  “You may do your best, but I am going to win out!”  It is in such a spirit that each of us should step out to face life:  “I am going to win through, by God’s grace.”

Never forget that God is working with you.  “The Lord will perfect that which concerned me.”  He will not desert the work of His own hands!  In my long life of eighty-one years, I have experienced more fluctuations and difficulties than fall to many, but I unhesitatingly assert that where God gives the plan He stands Surety for the result!  Dare to trust Him and keep in step with Him as He leads you onward.

Let us Pray:

O God, the God of all Goodness and all Grace, Who are worthy of a greater love than we can either give or understand; fill my heart with such love towards Thee as may cast out all sloth and fear, that nothing may seem too hard for me to do or to suffer in obedience to Thee.  Amen.

Today’s Scripture Inspirations
John 5:19-32

Jesus said to the Jews, “I can guarantee this truth:  The Son cannot do anything on his own.  He can do only what he sees the Father doing.  Indeed, the Son does exactly what the Father does.   The Father loves the Son and shows him everything he is doing.  The Father will show him even greater things to do than these things so that you will be amazed.

In the same way that the Father brings back the dead and gives them life, the Son gives life to anyone he chooses.  “The Father doesn’t judge anyone.  He has entrusted judgment entirely to the Son so that everyone will honour the Son as they honour the Father.  Whoever doesn’t honour the Son doesn’t honour the Father who sent him.

I can guarantee this truth:  Those who listen to what I say and believe in the one who sent me will have eternal life.  They won’t be judged because they have already passed from death to life.  “I can guarantee this truth:  A time is coming (and is now here) when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who respond to it will live.  The Father is the source of life, and he has enabled the Son to be the source of life too.   “He has also given the Son authority to pass judgment because he is the Son of Man.

Don’t be surprised at what I’ve just said. A time is coming when all the dead will hear his voice, and they will come out of their tombs.  Those who have done good will come back to life and live.  But those who have done evil will come back to life and will be judged.

I can’t do anything on my own.  As I listen to the Father, I make my judgments.  My judgments are right because I don’t try to do what I want but what the one who sent me wants.  “If I testify on my own behalf, what I say isn’t true.  Someone else testifies on my behalf, and I know that what he says about me is true.
