Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  Because of his great mercy he gave us new life by raising Jesus Christ from death.  This fills us with a living hope, and so we look forward to possessing the rich blessings that God keeps for his people.  He keeps them for you in heaven, where they cannot decay or spoil or fade away.  They are for you, who through faith are kept safe by God’s power for the salvation which is ready to be revealed at the end of time.

Jesus answered, “I have already told you, but you would not believe me. The deeds I do by my Father’s authority speak on my behalf; but you will not believe, for you are not my sheep.  My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.  I give them eternal life, and they shall never die. No one can snatch them away from me.  What my Father has given me is greater than everything, and no one can snatch them away from the Father’s care.  The Father and I are one.”

It is God himself who makes us, together with you, sure of our life in union with Christ; it is God himself who has set us apart, who has placed his mark of ownership upon us, and who has given us the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the guarantee of all that he has in store for us.  I am sure that God, who began this good work in you, will carry it on until it is finished on the Day of Christ Jesus.

For I am certain that nothing can separate us from his love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the present nor the future, neither the world above nor the world below—there is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord.  Everyone whom my Father gives me will come to me.  I will never turn away anyone who comes to me, because I have come down from heaven to do not my own will but the will of him who sent me.

To him who is able to keep you from falling and to bring you faultless and joyful before his glorious presence—to the only God our Saviour, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, might, and authority, from all ages past, and now, and forever and ever! Amen.

Do not make God’s Holy Spirit sad; for the Spirit is God’s mark of ownership on you, a guarantee that the Day will come when God will set you free.

To whom can the holy God be compared?  Is there anyone else like him?  Look up at the sky! Who created the stars you see?  The one who leads them out like an army, he knows how many there are and calls each one by name! His power is so great—not one of them is ever missing!

I know that your goodness and love will be with me all my life; and your house will be my home as long as I live.

Jesus said, “I am telling you the truth: you are looking for me because you ate the bread and had all you wanted, not because you understood my miracles.  Do not work for food that spoils; instead, work for the food that lasts for eternal life.  This is the food which the Son of Man will give you, because God, the Father, has put his mark of approval on him.”  And you also became God’s people when you heard the true message, the Good News that brought you salvation.  You believed in Christ, and God put his stamp of ownership on you by giving you the Holy Spirit he had promised.  The Spirit is the guarantee that we shall receive what God has promised his people, and this assures us that God will give complete freedom to those who are his. Let us praise his glory.
