Mark 1:14-20

God’s kingdom will soon be here. This has been the promise since Jesus preached beside Lake Galilee. Actually, the presence of the King, Jesus himself, began the fulfillment of that promise. As you read the gospel story you witness the signs of the kingdom in the King’s man wonderful works. The Holy Spirit brings these scenes of Jesus and his deeds before your inner sight, so that your faith in Jesus and his promised kingdom is not your doing. That faith is wonderfully formed in you by God himself.

(See also Matthew 4:18-22; Luke 5:1-11)

Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him.
Jesus going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. At once Jesus asked them to come with him, they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.
