Mark 10:46-52

In Jesus’ time the poor could only help themselves by begging, in the hope that someone would be compelled to toss them a coin. Such was Bartimaeus. By now, Jesus’ fame had spread everywhere in the district of Galilee. So even this blind man became excited when he heard that the “Son of David” could not refuse him. So the promise came true for Bartimaeus that the eyes of the blind were opened, just as Isaiah (35:5) had said. Jesus would not refuse you, either.

Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus, his disciples, and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus) was sitting by the road. When he heard that Jesus of Nazareth was there, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Many people sternly told him to be quiet, but he started shouting even louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Jesus stopped and said, “Call him!” So they called the blind man and told him, “Have courage! Get up. He’s calling you.” He threw off his coat, jumped up, and went to Jesus.
Then Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man told him, “Rabbouni, I want to see again.”
Jesus told him, “Go. Your faith has made you well.” At once the man could see again, and he began to follow Jesus down the road.
